The first of three volumes VIRGIN NOIR is a collection of 1st time directors' landmark first interviews with Paul Zimmerman. The "Where's Waldo" of film geeks recounts his adventures and interviews with a number of important directors from the indie revolution of the 1990s. Juicy, fast and unique, film history has never been so much fun. This volume includes interviews and never before told behind the scenes tales from an insider.

Advance praise for Virgin Noir

"Paul Zimmerman was on the ground when the first shots of the Indie film revolution were fired. These interviews show a raw, talented bunch ready to take cinema in a fresh new direction. Virgin Noir reads like a 1990s sequel to Easy Riders, Raging Bulls."
—Larry Karaszewski - co-writer of Ed Wood, The People vs Larry Flynt, and Man on the Moon

"Virgin Noir reminds me why I checked out of entertainment journalism in 2000 The 1990s were the last decade in which the filmmakers themselves were as interesting as the groundbreaking films they produced. Author, friend and colleague Paul Zimmerman brilliantly resurrects and celebrates the indie spirit fast fading in a sad sea of YouTube clips and iPhone apps." — Mark Ebner, author Hollywood,Interrupted and Six Degrees of Paris Hilton

"Paul Zimmerman’s collection is comically insightful, and he gives readers candid, behind-the-curtain access to some truly great movie directors a few seconds before they hit the indie film A-List." — Steve Miller, author, Detroit Rock City The Uncensored History of Five Decades of Rock ‘n Roll in America’s Loudest City

"Hip, incisive and altogether fascinating. Paul Zimmerman was present at the creation of indie cinema, and this book transports you back to those wide-open years. Highly recommended."
— Stephen Talty, author, Black Irish A Novel and Empire of the Water

Directors profiled in Volume I include...

1) Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs)
2) Kevin Smith (Clerks)
3) David O. Russell (Spanking the Monkey)
4) Neil Labute (In the Company of Men)
5) Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels)
6) Kimberly Pierce (Boys Don't Cry)
7) Sofia Coppola (Virgin Suicides)

Come along on the wild ride where you will learn where Tarantino got the t-shirt he wore in Pulp Fiction (hint Zimmerman gave it to him ), what it's like to be on the set of Mallrats, fooled by David O. Russell, angered by Kimberly Pierce and charmed by Sofia Coppola.

Leave the stuffy film books alone and learn what really happens when directors let down their guard and speak freely.

As the Editor-in-Chief of Film Threat Magazine and Filmzone.com and contributor to Details, Maxim, Spin, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Zimmerman had a unique opportunity to discover new talent. In his first book he lays bare the truth about the indie revolution of the 1990s while journeying to where few journalists have ever gone before.

Paul Zimmerman calls himself an "accidental writer," but his sharp and richly observed collection of directors' first-ever interviews is the most interesting and entertaining thing I've read on the indie film revolution of the 1990s. A film fan who somehow ended up in all the right places when a new breed of filmmakers took aim at Hollywood complacency, Zimmerman captures the voices of until-then unsung geniuses -- Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Danny Boyle, Lee Tamahori, Terry Zwigoff and more -- at the very moment their films were tearing apart the rules of movie-making.

Virgin Noir Indie Legends of the 1990s Volume 1 Icons edition by Paul Zimmerman Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

As a reader of Fim Threat (back in the day) it was right up my alley. Interviews and stories with all the right directors Tarrantino, Smith, etc. who at the time were truly independent. This is a treasure. Kudos to writer Paul Zimmerman for putting out this historically important document of one of the most exciting times in cinema. A great read.
Good stuff here- I highly recommend it for the film geek and everyone else out there. Zimmerman has had some fun with film as should we all!
Zimmerman's colloquial style, allows the arm-chair reader an out of body---and mind---experience with these highly acclaimed, yet off-beat screenwriters, directors producers and actors who consistently push the limits of film and life on a daily basis---a must read.
